Beguiled

Hazel Menehira

These inspirational poems honour the journey and process experienced when a soul mate faces the sudden reality of losing the one dearest to them. Hazel’s way of coping with the unexpected and traumatic loss of her partner of 34 years, David Chapman, (during a martial arts class) was to write this collection as a tribute to him. He died in in May 2009, and Hazel wrote non-stop, launching this book in September 2009. Bereaved readers will find comfort spiritual solace and strength in these poems. Published by Whanau, 2009.

BLAST OFF – Turning Page 74

Hazel Menehira and Hank West

This delightful little book actually provides a sequel to Hazel Menehira’s Nothing as Posh as a Memoir. It carries the essence and engaging story of an unexpected loving friendship that blossomed in Cairns – a friendship that grew into a force of nature that flourished in tropical North Queensland’s culturally receptive climate. Co-authored by Hazel and Hank West, the back cover states: “Love is looking for you – make sure it finds you. Give it a smile, embrace it.” Oh, and the rest of the book, to fill up the pages, contains the sort of stories they write (really well) all the time. Published by Whanau, 2010.

Snowbird Collectables: Stories and Verse from Both Sides of the Ditch

Hazel Menehira

Paperback

“Snowbirds” is the kindly Aussie term for migratory visitors who leave the harsher winter climes of their own countries, to enjoy the warmer temperatures Australia offers.

After 45 years in the public arena, both as a celebrated New Zealand journalist, speech and drama teacher, theatre practitioner, and national examiner and adjudicator, Hazel Menehira turned to creative writing in retirement. These are some of the early stories and poems from an elderly and patriotic Kiwi snowbird, enchanted by holidays in Australia and in particular by Far North Queensland where she now resides. H & A Design and Print, 2006.
